Nairobi hosts China-Africa NGOs Conference

    The first ever China Africa NGO Forum was held between August 29 and August 30, 2011 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Upper Hill, Nairobi, Kenya. Some 200 delegates from China and 17 African countries attended the conference aimed at enhancing collaboration and sharing of experiences between NGOs in Africa and China.

    The conference theme was to Develop Partnership and Promote Friendship between China and Africa NGOs.
    Kenya’s Vice-President Hon. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka opened the conference which was also attended by dignitaries from governments, United Nations, inter-governmental and civil society organization.

    The following topics were discussed at the two-day forum:
    1.    Managing Climate Change to address food security in Africa
    2.    Accountability and Transparency in the NGO sector: Lessons from Africa & China
    3.    Relationship between NGOs, Government Private sector and Communities
    4.    Traditional Culture protection and Educational Development
    5.    Role of Women and Youth in Development: Chinese & African Experiences
    6.    Fighting HIV/AIDS in China and Africa: Lessons learned.
